The Hunt for Red Maytober
Crystal Ball Challenge report. Success never gets boring.
Even though we blew another Ivy League game, we didn’t lose any ground in the overall standings thanks to the BYU game.
Our D1 Picks
Hofstra over Towson
What we said: Too much Canadian Connection for the Tigers to tame. Hofstra needs a win and help to sneak into the dance.
What happened: Card and Lincoln combined for just 1 goal and 2 helpers but New Yorker Stephen Bentz tallied 5 goals. Hofstra 12-10
Syracuse over Notre Dame
What we said: This game has been sold out for weeks. Good for Indiana lacrosse. Rough first year in the Big East for Notre Dame though, apparently only we saw that coming.
What happened: It rained cats, dogs, and Stephen Keogh’s 4 goals. 12-6 Cuse.
Princeton over Cornell
What we said: After an unacceptable loss to Harvard, Princeton needs to rebound to regain footing heading into the big dance. Expect a low scoring affair.
What happened: Cornell’s 6 goal lead ending into the 4th quarter was too much for the Tigers to overcome. 10-9 Cornell
Harvard over Yale
What we said: Another Ivy League game, who is making these selections? Regardless of record, Harvard is the better Ivy. Too much Cohen and Gibbons for the Bullies to handle.
What happened: Cohen and Gibbons chip in 6 goals. We can now admit Harvard is another year away from being legit. Yale 9-8
Our MCLA picks
Cal Poly over Stanford
What we said: Matt Graupmann for Earl of Nor Cal.
What happened: The Earl of Nor Cal almost out scored Stanford by himself. Cal Poly 16-5
Boston College over Boston University
What we said: Too much of a balanced scoring attack from the Eagles for the Terriers to overcome.
What happened: The Eagles out scored the Pups 8-1 in the third. Three players scored 11 of BC’s 18 goals. Maybe they aren’t that balanced. BC 18-6
Oregon over Washington
What we said: Ducks get a win and a much needed confidence boost prior to the likely rematch against Canada.
What happened: Justin Blackmore threw one assist, essentially taking the game off. Oregon still won 14-4
BYU over Colorado
What we said: No chance the Colorado Katy Perrys go into Utah and beat the Cougars for the second time in 4 days.
What happened: When your long stick scores a goal and adds an assist, odds are grand you’re winning the game. BYU 14-11
