Snow World, The New Costner Epic

An in depth look at how the snow has truck sticked the last week of Pitt lacrosse.

Snowpocalypse has been a significant disaster for out lacrosse team. We’ve had to cancel our game Saturday and due to campus being shut down this week we have also missed practice time. As such we’ve been doing a lot of remote managing via email.

One of the email topics that has been ripping through our inbox is the selection of next year’s executive board. This a very important step for the program in terms of building continuity. We felt like when we made changes this fall that most of the fat would cut itself out. Now as year one of the new regime beings to head for the door it is necessary for us to select an executive board with not just the same ideals but at least same motivation and resolve to reach our goals.

Most executive boards are announced at the end of the season or the start of fall ball. We want to announce next season’s executive board as soon as possible so we can start to bring them in on meetings.

The more they can learn watching from the shadows now, the easier things will be for them when they are in control next year.

People in position of authority make mistakes all the time regardless of their age. See Pitt Lacrosse executive board ordering gloves too late in the fall and not having them in time for our first game. See President Obama wasting time providing sports commentary for ESPN.

It happens. And we want to make sure they don’t happen next year so more forward progress can be made.

In terms of on the field news, we have nothing to report. Players have been on their own trying to stay warm, dry, and mentally sane while trapped in the dorms or houses. We got this email last night which will be a nice way to get the team back together before this weekend’s game.

Pitt Laxers,

I know this weather has thown a kink in our training regimen, however, we have a game on saturday regardless of how prepared we are. That being said I hope that all of you will participate in Wall Ball:

When: Thursday (tomorrow) from 4 to 5pm and 8 to 9pm Friday from 4 to 5pm and 8 to 9pm

Where: Posvar, under the bridge in between Posvar and David Lawrence

My phone number is 724 ***-**** if you need to contact me.

Also, I’m trying to have another pasta dinner and we will definitely try to have a team meeting before the game on saturday. Check your email and forward any messages via text to at least 5 other players.

A Pitt captain.

Nothing wrong with improving stick skills on a Thursday and Friday.

Some things that we have to take care of in the next 48 hours are fundraising and website related. Logisitics are boring.

Planning on winning Saturday so we can show off our home whites.

Speaking of home whites, Florida is the best dressed team in 2010 until proven otherwise. It’s going to take a lot to unseat them.

Florida has released pictures of their gloves and uniforms over the winter but seeing everything together is like the first time we saw Edward Cullen.

Miami isn’t looking too shabby either but their effort might as well be that of the JV bench captain compared to what has emerged from Gainesville.

Kits we are looking forward to:
Colorado State
Florida State
Oregon

Assuming they got new new, we know CSU did, Flip’s good for that.

Speaking of Florida, their next game will be broadcast online.

Game over if this comes out for male humans.

David Guetta is 42 years old. We didn’t know that until we saw this video of an aged hipster dancing in an elevator. But boy, can he get after it musically.

do they play for Nike U? or because both of their schools are sponsored by Nike are they not in the category? and Miami’s team has the same gloves as the Connecticut Hurricanes summer team. and helmets are also similar if not the same.

UF unis are pretty sick… what is even better? dyed spoons. well done sirs!

This whole Nike U thing confuses me a bit… the fact is that they make the slickest-looking, or among the slickest-looking, uniforms. I’m so glad teams are getting away from uniforms with messy piping everywhere.

  • Guest…

Florida’s white uni’s are nice. Not a fan of the orange one’s they rocked in the FSU scrimmage

  • http://412.LaxAllStars.com 412 Lax

Nike U is a phrased used to describe the non elite college football teams
that wear Nike uniforms that look the same. Everybody has the same model
with different colors. Nike has taken over college lacrosse and infected us
    with the swoosh.

We apply Nike U to college lacrosse teams at the club level that wear bare
bones Nike uniforms. Consider San Diego’s Nike uniforms compared to
    Florida’s.

One was customized and one was a stock option with stock font. San Diego
plays for Nike U while Florida just happens to wear Nike uniforms.

If it looks like you bought uniforms just because they had the swoosh on
them then you are playing for Nike U.

There’s a chance that both schools get discounted gear through their athletic dept. That’s something that each team has to work out on its own, or hope they have a contact at nike or a dealer. Considering Florida doesn’t have everyone rocking Nike cleats/socks, they probably aren’t covered for all their gear. Michigan is. Chapman has a Nike contact through South Swell. Oregon is Oregon. Etc., etc., etc.

Florida looks supreme though. Miami is looking good too, their colors just aren’t as fresh as Florida’s in general. And they should go off an orange base with green and white, not a green base.

They are club sports maybe 6 in the country are getting support from the
athletic department. I’d be shocked if San Diego’s athletic director knows
what lacrosse is let alone that they have a team.

  • Governator

I was talking about Miami and UF. No shot the USD AD has ever heard of lacrosse.

  • http://412.LaxAllStars.com 412 Lax

Same thing, I’m sure the athletic department at those schools have bigger
issues to worry about than outfitting their club teams in Nike gear.

Possibly. But Florida especially seems to consistently have nice, customized, new gear, which indicates to me either outrageously high dues, great alumni support, or some help from the department. I’d throw Colorado and CSU in that circle as well.

  • http://412.LaxAllStars.com 412 Lax

High dues and alumni support of course.

If you have a 40+ man roster and you’re charging $2000+ grand in addition to
money from the student government (which we get from Pitt and assume others
do as well) and donations, you can buy what you want.

    Money talks in club lacrosse.

No team socks negates from the overall kit in my eyes.

…But not by much because that setup is great.

  • http://412.LaxAllStars.com 412 Lax

That will be a tie breaker and a tough way to lose the crown should another
team have the nerve to do so.

    Custom socks aren’t expensive.

Oregon gets waaaay less support from Nike than you would think. Never made sense to me why Uncle Phil wouldn’t throw down for us but then I guess he’d have to outfit all the ridicoulous club teams. Damn ultimate frisbee..I blame you.

  • Governator

Those were Adrenaline J-Trains. Don’t know that they were custom, but still classy if they could get the whole team rocking em.
