Mini Practice Review

Last practice revolved around improving 6 v 6 chemistry and the clearing game.

As an attackman, we hardly care about the clear. It’s a formality until the middies get us the ball. But at the coaches convention there was a presentation entitled, “If you want to score, clear the ball first.”

That kind of hit home. We wonder how many coaches think of clearing the ball in this way.

Mini Roster Preview

On paper we have a very young team. Of the 30 players on the roster, only 10 are upper class men.

Four of our top six middies are sophomores.

Our top long stick is a sophomore and his back up is a freshman, likewise for the goalies.

But the fact of the matter is this, we return all but one starter from last year’s team. We are young only on paper not in experience and that must shine forth today.

Three senior attackmen. No excuses to have mental mistakes on offense.

Game Day Preview: Pitt vs Grove City

We lost to Grove City last spring with a depleted roster during finals week. Blah blah blah.

We lost to Grove City this fall with a full roster. Blah blah blah.

Wish we cared about 2009.

Wish we could say we suddenly have a bushel full of confidence after playing with an NCAA D2 team.

The fact of the matter is everything has been building to this point and everything will continue building beyond tonight.

Our challenge will be to not worry about what Grove City is trying to do on offense (the fall offense was the same as last spring).

Our challenge will be to not worry about what Grove City is trying to do on defense (they rely heavily on a great goalie).

Our challenge will be to not worry about winning by x amount of goals to remind GCC that they are a D2 team and we are D1.

Our challenge will be to not worry about sending a message to the rest of the CCLA.

The challenge issued to each player to is be better at 9:30 PM than they were at 7:30 PM. Everyone must improve tonight as individuals for us to reach our goals as a team.

Someone unexpected is going to score. Someone unexpected is going to slide body. Someone unexpected is going to pick up a ground ball. Not because they can’t but because they can. And we will  need that effort every game from hence forth.

2010 Turf Shoes

Love playing on astro turf. We still have turf burn from last spring grafted to our body.

Kenny Nims managed to sneak these before the release date.

So we promptly (two months later) purchased them for ourselves.

Basketball shoes over turf shoes since Nike essentially quite making turf shoes since essentially basically Pitt’s Cost Center is one of the remaining structures in the planet still sporting astro.
