Quint Kessenich Reporting UVA’s Season is Over, Updated

Always a good idea to report news that contradicts what the school’s athletic director says.

World class journalist, goalie, and sideline reporter for mid week college football games decided to inform STX that UVA canceled the season for both the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams in light of the terrible events of this past weekend.

The news was posted on STX’s Facebook page citing Quint as the source.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Quint did not text STX. He tweeted the news and STX reported it.

If we learned anything from the Duke scandal its that we should have patience before we throw a human being, an entire team, and an entire university under the bus.

Apparently Quint decided he didn’t learn anything from that experience and personally canceled the season of not one but two lacrosse teams.

Wonder if he would have come out with such an announcement if this had happened at Hopkins.

According to a legitimate media outlet, Sports Illustrated begs to differ with Quint’s assessment.

They write:

When asked how the death would affect the upcoming tournament, athletics director Craig Littlepage said it was “not even entering into our thoughts” but that for the players’ sake they wanted to “try to get back to some things that are normal.”

Here is the timeline:
around 2:30 Quint Kessenich tweets that UVA is done
at 3:06 SI posts an article covering the murder and arrest
at 4:31 SI updates their article but it is not clear what information was added
at 4:58 we check Quint’s twitter page which has now been removed
at 5:13 we check Inside Lacrosse’s twitter page, Quint’s employer, which posted this around 4:14, which is approximately 90 minutes after Quint first texted STX
Let’s take a disgusting act against humanity and see how we can further drag it through the mud.
Great job Quint.

quint is such a chotch. but i’m not gonna lie the ending of status convo is hilarious. also, my prayers and wishes go out to Yeardely and the Love family.

Ummm, did we just see the e-neuter of Quint K? I can’t find his twitter feed either. Obvi Quint spoke too hastily, but I don’t think he should get entirely thrown under the bus, we all make mistakes and the premature claim doesn’t hurt anyone (including Quint’s credibility).

Especially working for a major news resource (ESPN), one would think that Quint would have checked the source of the rumor before letting it fly (finding the fire upon seeing smoke in the air). I do agree with Jumbo_Jack, we all jump on things a little quick in general in this country, granted the technology allows for it, but with a story this sensitive to the lax community (first Duke, now UVa), we need to let the details surface, even more so in this case since the Duke case was pretty viral in its early stages.

Even if all charges are dropped, I just think it would be tuff to continue the season w/ a dead athlete. I feel like another suspect would have to be identified & have a ton of hard evidence that he was the perp. Still really sad though.

There is a difference between pointing out that someone is incorrect, and chatising them needlessly. He clearly realized he was misinformed and retracted his statement, that’s really all that he can do.

I mean.. cmon. It’s not as if he made this up to fan the flames. He obviously got a bad report and threw it up on Twitter. Dumb? Sure. Damning? Hardly.

    Peter –
Quint did not text us, I pulled that right off of his twitter page as numerous people RT’d it. Since his twitter account got deleted I’m sure people realized he got the wrong information. During this tragedy Quint is that last thing anyone should be talking or thinking about. Since this time I’ve deleted all that extra talk under the original statement I made about our thoughts and prayers being with the Love family and UVA community as that is what is important right now.

I’m Blake Morris the guy from the Facebook feed, the reason I asked STX to cite their source was that with all this new social media, their is no responsibility associated with reporting news. I am sure tizzle or who ever runs STX’s FB page did not mean to stoke the fire but with sensitive material like this and representing a well respected lax company like STX you have the power to influence a lot of people. Everyone in the FB/Blogo/twitosphere just need to slow down, realize they are not CNN and take responsibility for thier actions. I’m looking at you Quint. You could have at least amended your report rather than deleting your account. I respect you a ton as goalie, but your journalism leaves a lot to be desired.

Obviously this is a tragedy first and foremost, my thoughts and prayers are with both programs and both families, especially the Love’s as they attempt to endure this tragedy.

i’m sure UVA, at some point, did consider canceling their seasons. i would bet that quint had a legit source and i’m sure that he regrets going public with the info before it was final.

    quit fanning the flames.

throwing someone under the bus then sending “heartfelt” sentiments to the victim’s family in the same breath is insincere.

    your comment is so hypocritical.

my sister is the UVA men’s lacrosse manager. she has spent hours of every single day except sundays with the guys for the past YEAR, and knows them all very well. travels with them, knows everything about them as people, they consider her part of the team.

she knew Yeardley, but she really knew George very well. what everyone is going through is extremely difficult, very personal, and they don’t need people like you talking crap about the situation then saying you wish the best.

clearly you’re both retards and didnt fully understand my comment. just because i “threw someone under the bus” and then gave my wishes and prayers to the Love family doesnt make completely insincere. maybe if i had separated it into 2 postmaybe it would have been better. i was just making fun of quint because that was clearly a very stupid thing to say. and i’m not saying he doesnt regret it, i’m sure he does. but i dont like the guy in the first place. and i dont think he has the right to report that without the university releasing an official statement saying that they were going to cancel their season. idk if you read the facebook convo above that i’m talkin about, seems like you didnt. because its not like i’m taking a jab at the UVA players or anything like that. i was talking about how funny the conversation was because the person behind the STX facebook page said he didnt like him either, thought that was funny, and i was agreeing with the person saying that. so before you say that to me, maybe you should have asked me to fully explain myself. and shell my comment may have been hypocritical it was not meant in a bad way towards the Love family and the UVA lax community. so both of you can fuck off. thanks for playing.
