Another good drill for goalies to help them track the ball is to make butt-cap saves. Have them flip the stick over and leave about a thumbs length from the top. have a shooter at a normal warm-up distance shoot from 50% speed with shots getting faster as skill/confidence grows. Best part is you can work all 7 spots with this drill and it really improves hand eye as well as how they play their angles and attack the ball. The keeper’s subconscious takes over which is what you need in a goalie. It is also really good for training guys to play at night, on fields with low lights that create more glare or if you are in an environment like the Cost Center at Pitt.

Ask your goalies to catch the ball with their index, middle fingers and thumb, not the palm in this drill. Helps with hand eye coordination. Another simple drill is to have the goalie lay on his back, throw the ball in the air with his left hand and catch it with his right. starting position for his right hand (if its his dominant hand) should be in his box, where the goalie head is when taking shots. Make them all buy a jump rope. Get boxer quick.
