MLL Title Game Reactions

Couple thoughts on the game and television production.

I have no patience for Quint telling us that he spoke with hundreds of people who complained that the NCAA championship was too slow. For as many make believe friends as Quint has, non lacrosse people told me that they loved watching collegiate lacrosse on television Memorial Day Weekend. The fourth of the MLL title was boring as was the second half of the Hamilton and Denver game. Just because you had one slow game and it happened to occur during championship weekend doesn’t mean you need to rewrite the rule book. From a television production standpoint, talk about the game we’re watching now, Quint. Bringing up NCAA lacrosse reminds me of little I care for professional lacrosse.

Rabil and Walters did nothing. Let me rephrase, Rabil had at least two assists, none of which I remember, and wrecked Casey Powell in the final moments of the game. The only time I remember Walters being involved in the game was when he was celebrating with Powell after a Powell goal and an ill advised 16 yard over hand shot to Jordan Burke’s feet. Walters is only being mentioned now because of what he did yesterday. Not surprisingly he got nothing done when it counted. Rabil finally captured that elusive MLL title to slightly distance himself from the Lebron comparisons despite a pedestrian performance.

No reason for Brett Queener to enter that game when Scott Rodgers is available to play the duration. Why you would take out the next Team USA goalie who was playing beautifully in favor of Easton’s side show is something Bruce Boudreau would do.

Watching face-offs this weekend made me want to watch someone learn how to speak French. Nothing quite like two adults laying on the ground not moving for extended periods of time to retrigger play. Wasn’t this supposed to be addressed?

Why Jake Steinfeld’s interview was a spilt screen and not a voice over is beyond me.

Steinfeld may have leaked Rabil signing with Warrior. Something I told you would happen back in May.

Casey Powell banged his knee is a weird collision with Rabil and Merrill in the final seconds of the game. Posting the video eventually.

Is Steinfeld serious about bringing glowing sticks to MLL television productions?

Did you know the Ohio Machine will use the same uniforms as the Chicago Machine?

By far my favorite season of the MLL to date. Rabil barely contributing and the Cannons still winning as well Walters being a ghost in the finals made the conclusion of the season that much sweeter.

I will never under stand why MLL announcers will publicly announce issues with in the game IE shot clock/slow play of NCAA play/ect It only makes the sport look bad to the new fan.

FO issues were not resolved this year. Infact the only thing it did was provide inconsistency to the position. The rule where you are not allowed to pin the opponents stick should have been the only rule passed.

Not allowing Moto grip users to use the elbow/head to back their sticks simply promotes the time of FO stalemate. Once two players lock they are out of moves other than to spin. Since the Traditional grip is stuck once the initial clamp has been set they can sit there and wait with the thumb on the ball (ie what we just saw). Moto grip guys used to be able to follow through with an elbow as if they were bench pressing to push the opponent off the ball and get it out quicker (IE Smith since he was at Udel).  Not allowing this simply removes a out for players to finish the face off. The only way to win is to hopefully out wait your opponent who decides to pull out before he has control off the ball. This is sniders go to thus the 30 second face offs we saw.

If the league wants faster draws they need to re instate the use of the head/elbow. anyone but Eck will tell you that.

glad someone shares my utter hatred and disdain for joseph benedict bonaparte walters

How about Casey Powell putting the whole team on his back and running with it. I hope his injury is not too bad and he makes a fast and full recovery. I enjoyed watching Merrill shut down Rabil all day and guys trying to bomb the crease to score. If the Nats would have left Rodgers in I think they would have won. Why you would pull that guy out of the cage after he stood on his head in the second quarter is beyond me. Not offense to Queener but when Rodgers is fired up and in the zone like he was he is a beast in that goal.

Casey played like he wanted to win the title. Didn’t really get the feeling from the rest of the offensive short sticks for Hamilton.

Pulling a zoned in Rodgers will haunt the coaching staff for the entire off season. “Coldest Winter” on repeat.
