Jagged Little Pill to Swallow
Davenport 14 Pitt 12. Syracuse tramp stamp regret and other deep thoughts related to college lacrosse uniforms.
Game Review
We lost 14-12 to Davenport Saturday night in a game that was fun to be apart of but tough to lose.
I believe Davenport’s two goal lead at the conclusion was the largest lead of the game.
We have now played three ranked teams.
Buffalo D1 #19
Grove City D2 #8
Davenport D2 #3
All three were games we were in and I felt like we could have won, but the Davenport game was easily our best effort so far this season and hopefully we can build off from Saturday night.
D2 commentary: Davenport is a lot better than Grove City. Much like D1 just because you are ranked, it doesn’t mean you can run with the elite.
More on this game later.
Pitt plays Carnegie Mellon Wednesday and Miami of Ohio Saturday.
Human Error
Syracuse in 2009
Syracuse in 2010
It is important to note the 2010 uniforms are not simply 2009 uniforms with a blended in tramp stamp.
The 2009 uniforms featured the awful gut names.
This spring, “Orange” has replaced “Syracuse” and returned to the correct chest location.
It’s as if Syracuse is apologizing for last year’s horrendous efforts but still trying to sneak in something different with the faded S tramp stamp.
Tip of the cap to Syracuse for the effort.
They still look like creamsicle cones.
Yale on the other hand looks fantastic in the timeless Nike Long Island models.
Take one look at those uniforms and you know Yale is an Ivy League school.
Classic.
Regal.
Hopkins’ new helmets remain the worst lids we’ve seen this year if not ever. Yes these are even worse than Princeton’s Venoms.
Completely understand that they are trying something new.
No vent stickers.
No mohawk sticker.
Completely respect taking risks when it comes to new gear.
But, these skull protection units did not come out well at all. It appears that they were hastily made with left over helmet scraps.
Not only are they ugly, but in this picture the black and white color scheme doesn’t suggest that those are even Hopkins helmets.
Hopkins is probably the most iconic team in college lacrosse.
They should have easily recognizable helmets and uniforms a la Notre Dame football, Michigan football, New York Yankees etc.
Enter the tradition vs. Nike U debate.
The captain C patch being a different font than the “Hopkins” name plate might also be addressed.
Yeah, he’ll fit in nicely at Virginia.
