HOMECOMING WEEKEND, Who Cares

Skipped the Pitt USF football game to blog. That’s how important lacrosse is to us. Special surprise inside.

Scrimmage Report, Pitt wins by 5+ ish
All week long we had heard about how Slippery Rock jumped out to a 6-0 lead on Grove City. As a result there was some nervous tension surrounding the prospects of losing a fall ball scrimmage to a NCLL team. And when they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter my mind started to wonder to spin control on the blog. The aforementioned, “its fall ball it doesn’t count” theory of deflection was the first thing that crept into my head.
Unlike the Grove City game, we were able to recover from our first quarter slow start and led from the 2nd quarter on.
Offensively we are at our most lethal in unsettled situations. We are generating chances in settled 6 on 6 but not executing at a high enough rate. We have one more practice and one more scrimmage to have a good base installed going into the winter off season which will consist of stick work practices, chalk talk and film review.
On the defensive side of the ball, we took their best shot coming out of halftime and clamped down. In fact I don’t believe we gave up a goal in third quarter.
I took a ton of shots yesterday, more than likely, the most shots I’ve taken in one game/scrimmage in my career.

I'm a lead farmer
The good news or the bad news first…
Bad news is I only scored once, one shot did not challenge the goalie at all, and three shots were deflected which makes me think my release was slow yesterday.
Good news is of the nine shots I took, one went in, one was saved, the rest missed the net and were backed up. Better to give your team another offensive possesion than to provide a popcorn ball for the goalie. More good news, the goal I scored was left handed from about 10 yards out low to low through a screen (good thing I watch a lot of hockey). More good news, I was arriving at this point last year, but now I know I am here; there is no fear when I shoot. The Kobe Black Mamba ice water no conscious shooting mentality has become fully ingrained in my psyche. Its taken me years to recover from high school lacrosse when there would be 4 D1 players on offense with me and I saw no real need to be a threat. In other words, if the kid next to you is going to Dartmouth and the kid next to him is going to Bucknell, you want to get them the ball. That’s gone, that’s out of my system.
Now it’s time to be an offensive leader. What better time than my last year to figure that out.
Weren’t able to get meaningful video. But we did have a sports photographer there who took a few snaps. Some how I’m only in pictures 9 and 10, and picture 10 might be the weirdest passing technique of all time.
More Pitt News
We just wrapped up holiday catalog and published it online.
Every MCLA team should have one of these. It boosts team branding/exposure, gives the kids who have extra cash a chance to buy extra merchandise, and its a hidden fundraiser.
Obviously the challenge next year will be to integrate into the website and add an e-commerce feature.
Looking forward to wearing the Nike equivalent of the classic Boathouse jacket all spring.

Couple of notes:
The final logo would be two colors.
Where it looks like glove material is bumpy, for example, the gold in the last Shakedown mock up, that’s Brine’s Elephant Skin technology which is more protective and water proof.
