AHL Sale Jeopardizes Rochester

A report regarding the Sabres’ ownership’s desire to purchase an AHL team could hurt the Knighthawks.

Via TSN:

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sabres have signed a non-binding letter of intent to purchase the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League in Terry Pegula’s latest bid to expand his hockey empire.

“We are two-three days into our due diligence,” a person familiar with negotiations told The Associated Press on Tuesday. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because of a confidentiality agreement that is in place.

A formal sale would be months away, and require clearing numerous hurdles. One obstacle is the Sabres’ current affiliation agreement with the AHL Portland Pirates, which runs through the 2013-14 season.

…A sale would have to be approved by the AHL board of governors.

The Sabres purchase would leave the future uncertain for the National Lacrosse League’s Rochester Knighthawks, who are owned by the Americans. The Sabres already own the NLL Buffalo Bandits and would be barred from controlling two teams.

Hope there is an ownership group in place for the Knighthawks prior to this deal being approved. It would be a shame if that team has to move because of some human’s desire to own 39 hockey franchises, especially a human associated with that farming school in central Pennsylvania. Upstate New Yorkers, your thoughts.

Boston College was blowing out Colorado but they are not holding on for dear life halfway through the 4th. Didn’t expect that after their loss to Buffalo. Florida State and Michigan State has been a track meet. FSU has a one goal lead, but they’re man down. Wanted to call this game but felt like M. State had too many weapons regardless of their grossly overrated seeding. Flip on College Lax’s website. The video quality has apparently been garbage all over the country, however you can always listen to the announcers and squint.

Updates: FSU and BC held on.
