Dashing Skull Wear

Interview with an Oregon company that makes the coolest cold weather hats on the market.

Leaves change colors. Girls trade in a sense of dignity for sweatpants and Uggs. There’s a chill in the air. The Fall is here. Winter is coming.

We recently sat down with Heather Amaryllis, owner and designer of Rollic, an Oregon based company, to learn how she plans to keep people’s skulls warm and most importantly looking fantastic this off season.

412: When did Rollic get its start and who is responsible for the brand?

HA: The brand debuted at 2010 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City and officially launched on-line last week! Rollic was created to capture a “edgier” outdoor market segment; different from that of its parent company Shredalert.

412: What kind of person should wear Rollic?

HA: Anyone can wear Rollic hats and apparel. Our target market is the outdoor sport enthusiast who expects their attire to express their individuality and lifestyle. Rollic aligns with

individuals who love the sports that happen on dirt, water, and snow. We are also focusing on the skate movement – so I guess we could say concrete too.

412: Tell us about some of your fashion influences.

HA: I would say the largest influences are trends in the sports of moto, skiing/snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding. Our designs are inspired by necessity with the end result being the creation of accessories and apparel that are purposeful and stylish.

We’ve also recently started working with individual artists to create truly unique pieces. We’re excited about these additions to our line. They’re true works of art! Look for some amazing new hoodie and tee-shirt designs from Northwest artist Taylor Stanton in the very near future.

412: What does Rollic do to differentiate themselves from the riff raff?

HA: Our attitude and approach toward our products. Rollic is here for the athlete — and we ARE the athlete, we are our market. On any given day, someone from the office is on the water after work, sneaking out early for a mountain bike ride or moto and/or getting fresh tracks before they come in the morning. And, of course, we’re testing our gear in the process. This is what we’re all about and believe that people who buy are gear are too.

412: What is the company known for?

HA: So far, Rollic is best known for hats, but the brand is gaining momentum. We’ve aligned ourselves with some amazing athletes in snowsports, moto, mountain biking and skating. Our athletes put the soul into the brand and because they’re amazing at what they do, get a good bit of press! Check out Jamie Jacobson, Naish Ulmer, and Leo Ahrnes just to name a few.

412: What’s your favorite piece in your current line?

HA: Right now I’m all over the place. I’m just finishing designs for next year – which are really exciting for me so I lose a little focus looking back on our current line. That said, I think the Seadog and the Hudson are really awesome. The Hanako and BFF are really good too!

412: Did you play Cool Boarders for Playstation?

HA: Cool Boarders? Playstation? I’ve seen them, but….. unless it’s really nasty out and I’m in watching a movie or hanging out, you’ll probably find me outside.

412: What’s next for the company?

HA: Everything! There’s so much possibility and potential right now. Our current focus is the success of the website and getting our apparel lines in order for next year. And on that note, thanks for your time 412 and LaxAllStars — we hope the LAX scene likes what we have to offer. I should mention that two of our ten employees played and coached lacrosse; it’s a topic in the office that causes plenty of sidetracking, maybe too much. Thanks again!

412: One of those two lax chaps is Ryan Trude, a member of the 2006 National Champion Colorado State Rams. Lax lax lax.

If you don’t think knit hats with pom poms are the greatest…

Loyola’s women’s team already posted video from their scrimmage this morning against UNC.

Seems appropriate to expect similar treatment for the men’s scrimmage against Thug Life University tonight at 7PM.
