Dangerous Case of the Mondays

Crystal Ball Challenge is off to a hot start. Pitt home whites. More lax action than you can Indian pick up.

Well, the game of the week went into overtime. Comcast decided to show the game in clips and phrases. Over 500 channels and the one we needed to work didn’t function correctly. Isn’t that an Alanis Morisette song?

Not sure if it was jealousy or the truth but several MCLA people around the country were quite critical of both teams, saying things like neither can contend for a national title. Opinions started to return to the baseline average by the end of the game, however.

Heard both goalies were sub par. BYU has never had an elite goalie. The defense in front of their net minder hides that fact. Chapman’s goalie is a freshman from Nevada so you can give him a break.

D1 transfer darling Madison Fiore was a no show on the score sheet after dropping 6 against San Diego. Chapman can go two ways with this outcome. One way to think is this kid doesn’t show up in big games much like the entire Maryland team that he transferred from. Another way to think is we can win big games without him. Another way to think is we can win big games without Fiore or Blake Whitcomb who unless people say otherwise didn’t play because of injury.

Might not be picking against Chapman for a while especially if and when Whitcomb returns and Fiore proves he isn’t a streaky finisher.

Really disappointed in Rollins. Thought they were farther along than Florida Southern.

Furious with Texas right now. Only beat Tech by 6 and needed extra time to beat Arizona. In two games against non elite competition, the Texas goalie has had to make 30 saves which tells me their defense is porous. Johnny McKnight, the best midfielder you’ve never heard of and if you have heard of him you don’t know how good he is, was capable of carrying the offense as a freshman, expect bigger things this year and they’ll need it at the rate this defense is going.

High school team Austin Mai, another All American product out of Highland Park that wanted nothing to do with cold weather (read: NCAA lacrosse) better rise to the occasion because Colorado State, Chapman, and Florida State are looming. Not to mention a conference date with the much improved Southern Methodist Ponies this week.

Hey, Mr. Wilson. Congratulations on your lead after week one.

Striding Man had everyone refreshing their LaxPower LAGR every millisecond on Saturday thanks to Duke needing overtime to best a pesky Bucknell team.

A let down after beating Team USA and having to a face a non scholarship team? Seems reasonable.

All is not well in North Carolina. Billy Bitter has 3 points through two games. To calculate his point total through two games last year I needed an abacus and a scientific calculator (8, 5, 13).

Save your dignity. Get off the bandwagon now.

Home Whites

Tough to argue against tackle twill numbers and letters especially at the MCLA level.

Really just thrilled they don’t look like the stars pajamas the USA ski team is wearing. Not to mention the lime green UA logo is super patriotic.

Great job Under Armour.

Worst D1 Helmets

Not terribly worried for the Blue Jays will keep cranking out new color schemes and  have something different by mid season.

But we have to ask, was anybody paying attention when that was drawn up?

One thing we’ve noticed about the K18s besides the fact that everyone hates them is they make players look like they have tiny hands.

Don’t they look tiny?

Hopkins needs to get over checker board.

Not sure who Nike thinks they are but we are thrilled to notice that Cornell is also rocking the JNCO Jean sweatpants they offered this year. At least the pockets are deep.

He really needs that much tape? Yes. Yes, he does.

Also, Cornell guilty of wearing non matchy matchy numbers. You forgot to ask your players to wear different helmets.

Ivy League indeed.

Notes

Snowpocalypse will likely wipeout outdoor practices this week and next. More is coming

This week we will be posting stuff for sale on our website

Little bit of video coverage coming later this week

Happy Valentine’s Day from Robert Pattinson

Not responsible for this Youtube comment: All the guys that put Justin Bieber down are just jealous because they’re not like him. I’m probably the only guy that thinks he’s a great singer. I mean get real he’s fifteen and he already has like 4 hit songs, that’s not normal. Great job Justin!

Christian Kikumoto, Tyler Storer and Dave Johnson were all AA goalies at BYU in the last 10 years…your post-mission memory is fading Tumbas

Don’t agree with them being All American

Peter; that’s weak…just admit you don’t know what the hell your talking about. Dave Johnson was recruited by Maryland and Towson but decided on BYU. Tyler Storer started for Limestone during their championship runs in the early 2000′s before transferring to BYU. I actually think Arizona could surprise some teams this season. They got Mickey Miles-Felton back, and look like they’re starting to head back in the right direction.

But how about Oregon? Talk about a team that’s really back. I think they make the tourny this year for sure.

Oregon will be fine this year thanks to the experience learned from
last year. Having Coach Kerwin back doesn’t hurt either.

ASU beat up UCLA and Whittier this weekend that is a team to keep an
eye on if you’re a national title contender.

When you have two goalies in a high paced game of two of the best teams in the MCLA, and they each have a 50% save percentage, especially Chapman’s freshman goalie, I would say that is a good game for each side’s keepers. For being extra critical, this was game two of the season for both teams. If nobody noticed from the broadcast, Chapman’s whole second line of middies were freshmen (due to injuries to Whitcomb and other upperclassmen players), who held their own against BYU. This was a great early season game between two top teams. BYU did a solid job with holding back Martin at times, but they let him get away with four lefty goals (yep, all lefty by my count). Grow put up his usual numbers, but the BYU attack was held to only 2 goals by Chapman’s close D. Both of these teams are going to make waves this season. I also think Chapman could be a whole different team when they start getting key players back from injuries. Good start to the MCLA season.
