Brother Rice’s NA Invitational Uniforms

Detroit’s skyline isn’t that famous. Is it?

The Michigan power unveiled some special treats for this weekend’s North American Lacrosse Invitational. Let’s begin with the uniform.

Super aggressive look for the invitational.

Super. Aggressive. The first day they wore their white uniforms with a black cityscape and black shorts, so from distance it gave the impression that they were wearing really long shorts that had been pulled up to their chest. When you’ve been the best team in Michigan for years you can wear whatever you want. Doesn’t mean those uniforms are good looking and in fact it was difficult to identify the number due to the middle of the numeral being a different color.

How about those helmets?

Closer to the edge or closer to the edge? Even the liner is orange. My goodness.

They had been wearing white Triumphs and I’d venture a guess that everyone thinks the matte black helmets with orange chrome masks are a significant upgrade. Take a gander at their old stuff from earlier this season against Mt. Lebanon.

The journey from Trendville is a long one. White helmets for no reason? No, thank you.

Rice may have topped Mt. Lebanon months ago, but the Devils won 9-7 over Seneca Valley last night in the Pittsburgh semi finals and will advance to play Sewickley in the finals. There was a great crowd on hand last night to watch the game. Good for Pittsburgh lacrosse.

Notes

I believe this the first time since 2001 that Mt. Lebanon and Sewickley have met in the WPSLA or WPIAL title game

90% of Lax co-founder Tommy Kehoe is currently an assistant coach at Sewickley, he might have recently gotten a hair cut

Apparently there were tornado warnings all day yesterday in Bloomington, great

For the record: no, Detroit’s skyline isn’t particularly famous. I also don’t think that’s even the actual Detroit skyline, just a generic thing.

On board with the helmet.  I love that touch of orange on the back.
White sash across the numbers are nice too. Next step: match helmet numbers.

The helmet is pretty cool, but they should have used die-cut decals like duke did.

Will you be at the championship game? I’d say it might be one of the best in years past. Seneca vs. Franklin Regional last year was a great game.

The only building that would be distinguishable is the renaissance center (GM Headquarters). I thought the unis were shooting shirts when I first saw them at the tourney. They look like summer club jerseys. Either way I wish the founder of warrior went to my high-school so we could get custom gear like that at the drop of a hat.

    Wait, where is Brother Rice?

Actually, being from Detroit, and Scott is almost close, I would know the most about it.  The Renaissance Center/Joe Louis Arena/Hart Plaza/One Detroit Center Skyline is and would be the most famous skyline in Detroit.  However, I don’t see the resemblance of it on the uniform at all.
