they would most likely have to win the CCLA which almost certainly means beating Michigan. An at large is slim to none, why not play BC another top 10 team thats a huge step for the program. And as for recruiting, the top 5/7 teams are very active recruiting and if you want to crack the top 10 your going to need to recruit eventually.

For arguments sake if we used last years CCLA tournament set up, we'd have to beat Central Michigan in the quarters, Michigan in the semi finals, and Buffalo in the finals.

Two CCLA teams haven't made the tournament for several years (dating back to Oakland's days in D1).

There are two roads to take, schedule very hard OOC competition as Michigan State is doing and then hope to earn an at large bid or beat Michigan to earn the AQ.

Because all of the teams you listed, including Pitt, recruit? Come on. Playing "as many games as you can" is not going to help you get better. The top teams don't play a bunch of games just to play them. Getting better is about playing the best teams and seeing how they do it. It's about preparation.

Of course, if you are really going to have a shot at nationals, then you'll probably have to play Michigan in the CCLA finals right?

i agree that you have to do everything to get better, i think saving money for a tournament your not going to go to does not make your team better. Playing some good teams in BC, Northeastern, and BU does make you better. Not only does this make your team better, but it opens recruiting avenues. Its your Senior year no? Probably the last time youll be playing with a real team, get as many games in as you can and dont worry about natonals that you have a 1/100 chance of making

That first person's comments are exactly what shouldn't happen to the MCLA and lax in general. Like Coach Paul said, you're either trying to become someone or you aren't. You see it year in and year out where teams who come up shy for the tourney one year and are making a splash the next. I think you guys shouldn't go to Boston, go to Ann Arbor and see what it's like to be a big boy in this league and go toe to toe with Michigan at their place.

Lower ranked teams are doing a disservice to the league if they aren't trying to get better.

CollegeLAX: Is it surprising to you how much the MCLA has grown over the years? Did you have any idea it would become what it is when it began?

Coach Paul: We didn’t really understand how big this could get, but I’m not really surprised. The MCLA fills a void. My concern continues to be that we have valued quantity over quality. We brag all the time about the number of teams we have. I’m personally more interested in knowing how many teams we have that really take themselves seriously. I see teams working hard to build their programs, but I also see teams that have no interest or commitment to move beyond traditional club parameters, or worse…taking steps back.

It's the MCLA. Teams can make pretty big jumps in one year if they really make the effort. The national tournament should absolutely be your goal.

I'd be skeptical of the Boston trip. No coach? Isn't that club stuff what the Pitt program is trying to avoid now? Boston is fun, but are you looking for fun or to improve the program?

Minnesota looks like the best option. Two good tournament teams, plus Minnesota. Lindenwood is probably beatable, which would make a tournament statement. Downside - it's in Minnesota and the winter ends there in July. But I'm assuming they play indoors, so who cares? Business trip right?

Michigan would just be cool to play because they are the defending champs and their home games are supposed to be pretty well done. Everyone would be expecting a blowout, so if you keep it close on the road that's probably a win in the tournament committee's eyes. Didn't they award strength of schedule last year over results?

dude not trying to sound like a dick, but you guys havent had a good team in years and the odds of cracking the tournament this year are nearly non-existent. The CJ tourney is great for exposure and travel, but youll most likely be losing 3 or 2 games. Outside of that pick the trip that will be more fun, and dont worry about saving for Denver (your not going this year). A trip to Boston in spring would be great, much more fun than getting trounced by Michigan.
