2011 Preseason Top 1-5
One of the finest books ever written paired with the finest preseason top 5 ever conceived. Ever.
5. Michigan State
Points: 84
State made giant strides forward last year getting off to a 8-1 start before losing 4 of their last 6. The good news in all of those losses came against tournament teams including BYU in the big dance. The better news is 4 of their 10 wins came against tournament teams. The even better news is that in their 10 wins they averaged 14.6 goals. The spectacular news is their top seven scorers return which will help the team early in the season as they work to replace AA goalie Dean Hall.
4. Arizona State
Points: 86
Let’s be honest, the way people talked about the Devils in preseason you would have thought they were the new Miami Heat. Then the regular season began and they lost a few games and we lost interest. Fast forward to May 15th and the Devils were within a goal of national champion Michigan. Now, let’s really be honest. If Ryan Westfall, Eric Nelson, and Anthony Laflam return to use up thier eligibility this team is going to be a hand full. Nineteen freshman are on the way to provide assistance but those three will carry the ship or the Devils won’t be in our top 10 very long.
3. Colorado
Points: 90
Never has a 6-7 team garnered so much attention before this season. Then Colorado went out and proved they belonged in the tournament with a first round win over Oregon and a close loss to Arizona State. Stability appears to have returned to Boulder in the form of Coach Ryder. James Blackburn will be a first team AA attackman. Bradley Macnee will be the best goalie in the conference and a likely HM AA nod. God knows what will happen if this team has a winning record heading into the tournament in 2011.
2. Colorado State
Points: 95
Every time something bad happens to Colorado State in the tournament, they microwave a dish of revenge for the following year. If the black uniforms make a return trip to Fort Collins, look out. Cooper Kehoe will make a run for the POY award as the senior leader of an offense that only graduated 2 players (31 points.) Kehoe had 79 in case you were wondering. Year two under the Smith reigme is going to be super bright. Anything but a championship game appearance will be a let down for the Rams.
1. Michigan
Points: 235230958902385023095
Number one until proven otherwise. They return Trevor Yealy, the best goal scorer in the history of the MCLA, the best one on one cover man in Harry Fried, a decent sized budget and the best coaching staff in the country. What more do you need to know?
What’s Eating Young Gilbert
Texas went 11-5 last year. They lost to Chapman, Loyola Marymount, Lindenwood, Colorado State, and Texas State. If you’re a member of that team and you’re not embarrassed by losing to Texas State you should quit the team.
If you’re a member of that roster and you’re not embarrassed by the mutiny that chased out Coach Fink, you should quit the team.
Miraculously, Coach Myers arrived in Austin this summer. The Longhorns graduate all of 2 players (24 points.)
Key returners include: top 3 middie in the country, Johnny McKnight, the best freshman middie in the country, Austin Mai, both of whom are Highland Park, Dallas graduates
Key additions: Any one else from Highland Park that decides they don’t want to play D1 on the East Coast
This team was on the brink of disaster then they go out and bring in someone like Coach Myers who might automatically be a top 5 X’s and O’s guy in the MCLA.
The Horns will be the most interesting team to watch in 2011.

One of the coaches at Michigan camp called him, “Lax Bro Cool.”
Our best tweet of the summer? Maybe.
